Government Degree College Chakrata lies in the lesser Himalaya at an elevation of 7200 feet from mean sea level. The College came into existence in 2004 with the efforts of Shri Pritam Singh, then and at present Minister of Rural Development in the Government of Uttarakhand and is named after his father Shri Gulab Singh, a well known Minister in the Government of undivided U.P., a popular leader in Jaunsar-Babar and known for his contribution to create entire Jaunsar-Babar as a Schedule Tribe area. The College is 2 km far from Chakrata, a town in Pachhwa Doon of District Dehra Dun and is situated at a distance of 94 km from nearest rail-head and district headquarter Dehra Dun.
